Many people are unaware of a serious threat to our beautiful ash trees. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an insect that was discovered in southeastern Michigan in 2002. It has decimated the ash trees there in just six years.
The larva of the EAB lives just under the bark of ash trees, consuming the cambium (food transporting) layer of the tree. EAB will kill all untreated ash trees in infested areas, and it spreads quickly. This nasty bug has been found in Miami County, and EAB affected trees have been identified in Troy. There are effective treatments for controlling EAB available, for either homeowner or professional application, but they are not cheap.
